Job Title: Intermediate/Senior Quantity Surveyor
Role:
To perform the role of a Quantity Surveyor as instructed by the Principal in all matters relating to the firm’s business. These duties include preparation of quantities for building and civil engineering works, either in the form of approximate estimates or full bills of quantities. Measurement to be undertaken in accordance with standard methods of measurement or, in the case of estimates, in a form to be agreed with the Principal. Use of computer generated quantities using in-house bespoke system.
Preparation of Bills of Quantities using bespoke (QSCad & Masterbill version MB3) computer programs or in hand written form for typing by secretarial staff or by use of spreadsheets.
Post Contact surveying either in traditional form or other methods appropriate to the specific project.
Duties to include visiting sites, taking necessary measurements, carrying out valuations of works and agreeing final accounts with the contractor.
Liaising with architects, engineers and other designers in respect of pre and post-contract services.
Assisting in the preparation of quantities and/or pricing same for inclusion in Expert Witness reports as directed by the Principal.
Complying with the Construction (Design and Management) requirements of designers including completion of appropriate forms.
Acting as Planning Supervisor under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, as directed by the Principal.
Any other duties as directed by the Principal.
Methods of working to be discussed and agreed with the Principal, prior to undertaking any duties.
The following general duties are to be undertaken only if other staff are not available to undertake them. i.e. staff on holiday or on sickness leave.
Dealing with incoming and outgoing post, including taking to collecting points.
Answering and making telephone calls, facsimile transmissions, manning reception and other general office duties including filing, photocopying etc.
Working with computer systems, attending to printers, photocopiers and ensuring that the general day to day maintenance is maintained.
Dealing with and keeping all necessary records, as set down by the principal.

Although you may be required to work from time to time at the location(s) of construction sites:
:- within offices of contractor on particular sites to take measurements of works carried out by main or sub-contractors: preparation of interim certificates; agreement of final accounts for main and/or sub-contractors: checking quality of works carried out by main or sub-contractors: attendance at location(s) of works where there is a dispute between main contractors and sub-contractors or between clients and main contractors and sub-contractors; all other locations as directed by the principal.
Working overseas
Overseas work is generally not undertaken, however, if so required by the principal, agreement may be reached between the employee and the principal that overseas work will occur and the employee will be paid an agreed additional supplement to the employee’s salary.
All expenses such as travel, accommodation, subsistence costs etc will be borne by the practice.
Hours of work
The Post is to be Full Time.
The normal working hours will be 37.5 hours per week.
Normal working days: Monday to Friday.
Normal working hours: 09:00 and 17:30.
Overtime or night-time working is not normally required. However, agreement may be reached between the employer and the employee, at a suitably agreed rate for such work, should it be deemed necessary.
Occasional week-end work may be required at an agreed rate of pay.
There will be a probationary period of 6 months after which a review of the appointment will be made.
Salary. £25,000 - £30,000 plus benefits (dependant upon status)
Holiday entitlement: 20 days per year pro/rata excluding public holidays
